Summary
Clapiscribe records audio and turns it into transcripts and summaries on iPhone, iPad and Mac. It is published by Clapilot GbR. Clapilot GbR does not collect any data from the app. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and the app makes no network requests of its own. Recording, transcription and summarization happen on your device; your recordings and transcripts are never uploaded to us.

Recording
- Microphone. Clapiscribe records from the microphone only while you record.
- Meeting and system audio (Mac). If you choose a meeting app or “All system audio”, Clapiscribe captures that audio on your Mac with Apple’s Core Audio, together with your microphone. It does not record your screen.
- Imports. If you import an audio or video file, Clapiscribe copies its audio track into the app. The original file is not changed.
Transcription, summaries and speaker labels
- Transcription uses Apple’s speech recognition framework (SpeechAnalyzer) on your device. The language models it needs are downloaded from Apple and managed by the system.
- Summaries use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models (Apple Intelligence). If Apple Intelligence is not available or turned off, there are no summaries; transcription keeps working.
- Speaker labels (Pro) use speaker models that ship inside the app and run on your device. Nothing is downloaded for them.
- No recording, transcript or summary is sent to Clapilot or to any cloud AI service.
What Clapiscribe stores and where
- Recordings (compressed audio) and, while recording, temporary audio files for crash recovery, in the app’s private storage.
- Transcripts, summaries, speaker names, bookmarks and titles in a local database in the app’s private storage.
- Preferences: settings, your consent message and the free-tier counters.
Clapiscribe does not sync via iCloud. Your recordings are part of your normal device backup (iCloud Backup, a computer backup or Time Machine on the Mac) if you use one.
Permissions
Microphone
To record audio. Required for recording.
System audio recording (Mac)
To capture the audio of meeting apps or all system audio, so both sides of a call are transcribed. macOS asks the first time.
Speech recognition
If your system asks for it, it is used only to turn your recordings into text on this device.
Notifications (Mac, optional)
For meeting detection, which is off by default. When you turn it on, Clapiscribe checks locally which apps are using the microphone and compares them with a list of meeting apps and browsers to show a local notification. Nothing leaves your Mac.
Clapiscribe asks for no camera, location, contacts, calendar, photos or tracking permission. On iPhone you can start and stop recordings with the Live Activity, Control Center, the Action button, Siri and Shortcuts; Siri requests are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.
Recording other people
When you record a conversation, you decide what is recorded, and you are responsible for informing participants and for obtaining any consent required where you and they are (in Germany, for example, § 201 StGB and the GDPR). Clapiscribe helps with a reminder when a recording starts and a consent message you can copy into the meeting chat, but this is not legal advice.
Clapilot GbR has no access to your recordings and does not process them.
Purchases through the App Store
Clapiscribe is distributed through Apple’s App Store. Clapiscribe Pro is available as an auto-renewing yearly subscription or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Apple processes the payment and handles billing, Family Sharing and refunds as an independent controller under the Apple Privacy Policy. We do not receive your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details.
The app uses Apple’s StoreKit framework to check on your device which purchases are active. In App Store Connect we only see aggregated sales and download reports that do not identify you.
Crash reports shared by Apple
If you have turned on Share With App Developers in your device settings, Apple may pass crash reports and anonymous diagnostic data about Clapiscribe on to us. Apple does not tell us who you are. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
When you email us
If you contact us by email, we process your email address, the content of your message and anything you choose to include (for example your device model, iOS version or screenshots) only to answer your request.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns the app you use, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in answering inquiries). We delete your messages once your request has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations require us to keep them longer.
No tracking, no selling
Clapiscribe contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites. We do not sell or share personal data.
Processing that happens only on your device is not processing by Clapilot GbR: we have no access to it. The only personal data we process ourselves is what you send us by email (see “When you email us”).
Deleting your data
- Deleted recordings go to Recently Deleted and are removed for good after 7, 30 or 90 days (30 by default, set in Settings → Privacy & Consent), or right away with Delete permanently.
- Turn on Don’t keep audio after transcription to keep only the text, or use Delete audio older than 90 days… in Settings → Storage.
- Deleting the app removes all recordings and data it stored on your device. Copies in your device backups are managed by Apple or your computer.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20), and the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 21). Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)).
To exercise your rights, email luca@clapilot.com.
Your data in Clapiscribe is stored only on your device. We cannot see, export or delete it for you; you can do this yourself in the app or in your device settings.
Right to lodge a complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), in particular in the EU member state of your habitual residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement. The supervisory authority responsible for us is:
Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA)
