Getting started
Clapipaste runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. While it is running, everything you copy is saved to a visual timeline grouped by day. These keyboard shortcuts get you around (⌃ is the Control key, ⌘ the Command key):
| Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|
| ⌃⌘L | Open the Library window. Filter by type, source app and categories. |
| ⌃⌘V | Open Quick Paste to search your history and paste without leaving the current app. |
| ⌃⌘1 … ⌃⌘9 | Paste one of your latest clips. ⌃⌘1 is the most recent. |
| ⌃⌘0 | Paste the tenth most recent clip. |
| ⌃⌘C | Open the Color Picker. |
| ⌃⌘T | Text Capture: recognize text in an area of the screen you select. |
| ⌃⌘N | Open a Quick Note. |
More ways to work with your clips:
- Notch shelf: move the pointer to the notch or the top center of the screen to see recent clips. Drag a clip out into any app, or drop items onto the shelf to save them.
- Categories: group clips into categories. Turn a category into a Smart Auto-Filter with rules by type, source app and keywords.
- Multi-clip copy: select several clips and copy them as one, or combine them into a new card.
- Inline shortcuts (optional): give a clip a keyword, then type
;keywordin any app to expand it. This needs the Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions. - Clip reminders: get a notification about a clip at a set time or when a chosen app opens.
Permissions
Saving and browsing your clipboard history needs no special permission. Three optional macOS permissions unlock specific features. Each one is used only for that feature and never to send data anywhere.
Accessibility
Lets Clapipaste paste directly into the active app and expand inline shortcuts.
Input Monitoring
Lets Clapipaste notice when you type a ;keyword inline shortcut. Keystrokes are only compared on your Mac against your own keywords and are not stored.
Screen Recording
Used for Text Capture. Only the area you select is captured, processed on your Mac and then discarded.
How to grant a permission
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Choose Accessibility, Input Monitoring or Screen Recording.
- Turn on the switch next to Clapipaste. If it is not listed, click + and add Clapipaste from your Applications folder.
- If macOS asks you to, quit and reopen Clapipaste so the change takes effect.
You can turn any of these permissions off again in the same place. The related feature then stops working; the rest of Clapipaste keeps working.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored?
Only on your Mac, inside Clapipaste’s sandboxed app container. No Clapilot servers are involved, and Clapilot GbR does not collect any data from the app. If you turn on iCloud Sync, your clips are also stored in your own private iCloud database. See the privacy policy.
Does it work without permissions?
Yes. All three permissions are optional. Without Accessibility, Clapipaste can’t paste directly into the active app or expand inline shortcuts. Without Input Monitoring, inline shortcuts are not detected. Without Screen Recording, Text Capture is unavailable.
How do I pause capture?
Choose Pause Capture in the Clapipaste menu bar menu, or turn on Pause clipboard capture in Settings → Privacy. Turn it off again to resume.
How do I sync between Macs?
On each Mac, open Clapipaste Settings → Sync, turn on Sync clips with iCloud and restart Clapipaste when asked. Use the same iCloud account on every Mac. iCloud Sync is off by default.
How do I delete my history?
Delete individual clips in the Library, or open Settings → General → Clear History to remove your history. Deleting the app also removes its data from your Mac. If you use iCloud Sync, you can remove synced data in your iCloud settings.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
