Local network

To find and control your TVs, Clapimote uses your local network only:

  • Discovery. Clapimote looks for TVs with Bonjour and, if none answer, briefly checks the devices in your own Wi-Fi subnet for the ports TV remote protocols use. It then asks a found device for its name and model (for example Roku and Samsung device information, or the name in an Android TV’s certificate).
  • Control. Button presses, text you type with the keyboard, touchpad movements and app launch commands are sent directly to the TV you selected. Clapimote identifies itself to the TV as “Clapimote”; it does not send your name, Apple Account or phone model.
  • Turning the TV on. Where supported, Clapimote sends a Wake-on-LAN packet or a power key over your local network to the TV’s stored address.
  • App icons. On Roku and LG TVs, app icons are loaded from the address the TV provides, which is normally the TV itself. They are cached on your device for up to 7 days.

Encryption. Samsung (2018 and later), LG and Google TV / Android TV connections are encrypted, and Clapimote remembers each TV’s certificate. Roku, Samsung TVs from 2016–2017 and some LG connections use unencrypted local protocols, so text typed with the keyboard is readable by other devices on the same network. Avoid typing passwords on these TVs if you don’t trust your network.

What Clapimote stores on your device

  • Your TVs: name, model, IP address, MAC address (for Wake-on-LAN), a device identifier and when it was last seen, in the app’s private storage. This list can be part of your normal device backup.
  • Pairing keys: tokens, client keys and certificates your TVs issue during pairing, stored in the iOS Keychain with “this device only” protection. They are not included in backups to other devices.
  • Preferences: settings, your last TV, app favourites per TV, the free preview counters and a cached Pro status.

Permissions

Local Network

Required to find and control TVs and streaming devices on your Wi-Fi. Without it, Clapimote can’t reach your TV.

Clapimote asks for no other permissions: no camera, microphone, location, contacts, Bluetooth or tracking permission. You can change local network access in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.

If you use Clapimote’s shortcuts with Siri, Siri requests are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. Clapimote does not use iCloud.

Purchases through the App Store

Clapimote is distributed through Apple’s App Store. Clapimote Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. Apple processes the payment and handles billing, Family Sharing and refunds as an independent controller under the Apple Privacy Policy. We do not receive your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details.

The app uses Apple’s StoreKit framework to check on your device which purchases are active. In App Store Connect we only see aggregated sales and download reports that do not identify you.

Crash reports shared by Apple

If you have turned on Share With App Developers in your device settings, Apple may pass crash reports and anonymous diagnostic data about Clapimote on to us. Apple does not tell us who you are. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

When you email us

If you contact us by email, we process your email address, the content of your message and anything you choose to include (for example your device model, iOS version or screenshots) only to answer your request.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns the app you use, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in answering inquiries). We delete your messages once your request has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations require us to keep them longer.

No tracking, no selling

Clapimote contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites. We do not sell or share personal data.

Processing that happens only on your device is not processing by Clapilot GbR: we have no access to it. The only personal data we process ourselves is what you send us by email (see “When you email us”).

Deleting your data

  • Remove a TV in Clapimote to delete its stored details, pairing key, favourites and cached icons.
  • Deleting the app removes the data it stored on your device.
  • To revoke access on the TV side, remove Clapimote from the TV’s list of connected devices or mobile apps.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20), and the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 21). Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)).

To exercise your rights, email luca@clapilot.com.

Your data in Clapimote is stored only on your device. We cannot see, export or delete it for you; you can do this yourself in the app or in your device settings.

Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), in particular in the EU member state of your habitual residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement. The supervisory authority responsible for us is:

Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA)
